| To Upgrade from
Grade 8 to Grade 7 Along with meeting
the annual in-service hours, there are six
additional requirements that must be met.
- You must have 75 games as a referee and 25
as an AR
- You must have 12 months as a Grade 8 referee
- You must complete the intermediate (or
upgrade) training course
- You must have a score of 85% on the Referee
Grades 7 & 8 examination
- You must pass the USSF Physical Fitness Test
for Grade 7
- You must be recommended for upgrade through
an assessment on a U17 or higher game.
All of these requirements are listed in the
Referee Administrative Handbook.

Grade 6

as an AR in U-19 games or higher
- You must have 12 months as a Grade 7 referee
- You must complete the State Referee training
course
- You must have a score of 75% on the State
Referee examination
- You must pass the USSF Physical Fitness Test
for State Referee
- You must be recommended for upgrade through
two assessments as a referee (one on a Division
2 adult or higher) and one as an AR on U-19 or
higher affiliated games.

To Upgrade from Grade 6 to
Grade 5
Along with meeting the annual in-service hours,
there are six additional requirements that must be
met.
- You must have 150 games as a referee (50 on
Adult Division 1) and 50 as an AR
- You must have 12 months as a Grade 6 referee
- You must complete an Advanced Training
course
- You must have a score of 85% on the State
Referee examination
- You must pass the USSF Physical Fitness Test
for State Referee
- You must be recommended for upgrade through
two assessments as a referee and one as an AR on
affiliated top adult Division 1 games or higher
